No. The only difference in the new Allegra-D is the easier-to-open "push foil" packaging.

When did Allegra Allergy become available for purchase over-the-counter?

Allegra Allergy became available in its original prescription strength without a prescription in stores nationwide on March 4, 2011.

Is there a difference in strength between Allegra Allergy over-the-counter and the original prescription Allegra Allergy?

Is Allegra Allergy still available by prescription?

All Allegra indications and formulations have transitioned from Rx (prescription) to OTC (over-the-counter). However, for children six months to six years of age with hives the FDA requires a prescription from a physician because of the difficulty of diagnosing hives at that age. This is required for all OTC antihistamines to ensure a physician consultation occurs. The pharmacist will fill the prescription with OTC Children's Allegra Oral Suspension as an Rx Children's Allegra Oral Suspension is not available.

Do allergy sufferers need to see a doctor before taking Allegra Allergy without a prescription?

No. Allegra Allergy is available for purchase without first having to get a prescription (from an allergist or other healthcare provider). If allergy sufferers have additional questions, they should talk to an allergist or other healthcare provider.

What formulations of Allegra Allergy are available without a prescription?

The Allegra Allergy family of products available over-the-counter nationwide includes:

Is there a reason Allegra-D is only offered in limited quantities?

Yes. Due to a federal pseudoephedrine drug statute and related regulations, the amount of product sold over the counter is limited by the amount of pseudoephedrine that can be contained in the packaging. Allegra-D contains pseudoephedrine, and is subject to these requirements. We are working within these requirements to find ways to bring you a better experience.

Which Allegra Allergy products can I buy in a 90 count?

Currently, only Allegra Allergy 24 Hour is available in a 90 count, which can be found in your local club store.

Where can I buy larger counts of Children's Allegra?

Unfortunately, we do not offer Children's Allegra in larger count sizes. Currently, the Children's Allegra Orally Disintegrating Tablets 12-hour dose only comes in a 12 count. Children's Allegra Oral Suspension comes in a 4 oz bottle.

Why shouldn't I take Allegra Allergy with fruit juices?

Allegra Allergy should be used as directed according to the product label. Maximum effectiveness has been demonstrated when Allegra Allergy is taken with water. Taking Allegra Allergy with fruit juice IS NOT a safety risk, but the effectiveness of the medicine may be reduced.

How much does Allegra Allergy cost without a prescription?

Pricing for Allegra Allergy is at the discretion of each retailer. Occasional pricing promotions will be available at Allegra.com — so check back often.

Why is Allegra Allergy more expensive over the counter than when it was available by prescription?

Is Allegra Allergy covered by insurance plans?

Over-the-counter medications are not typically covered by insurance plans. However, insurance plans differ for each individual, so be sure to check with your insurance company.

How do I get the $5.00 coupon?

Our $5.00 coupon is available exclusively through our Facebook page. How do I get the coupon from the mobile site?

We currently do not have a mobile coupon that you can use by showing your mobile device at a retailer, but you can redeem a coupon through the mobile site. First, go to Allegra.com on your mobile device and click on the "Get Coupon" link at the top. Then you must enter your e-mail address in the field and select the "E-mail Coupon" link. From there, the coupon will be e-mailed to you, where you must access it from a computer connected to a printer. Print the coupon and take it to a retailer to save on Allegra Allergy.

We know that our blister packaging can sometimes be challenging to open, but they are designed to ensure that Allegra Allergy is childproof and follows safety regulations. Because Allegra-D contains pseudoephedrine, it needs to adhere to additional regulations regarding its sale, packaging, and distribution. We are continuing to look at packaging options that are less frustrating to open.

Allegra Allergy used to come in a bottle. Why is the packaging different now than when it was Rx?

Allegra Allergy 24 Hour is currently available in 30, 45, 70, and 90 count easier-to-open bottles. Small count sizes and Allegra-D are currently sold in blister packs. Because Allegra Allergy is now sold over the counter, we must adhere to different packaging and distribution requirements than when it was Rx. We understand it can be challenging, but please know that we are continuing to look at options that are less frustrating.

Can children use Allegra Anti-Itch Cream?

Yes. Allegra Anti-Itch Cream is indicated for children ages 2 and up. For children under 2 years of age, ask a doctor.

How many times per day can Allegra Anti-Itch Cream be applied?

Allegra Anti-Itch Cream can be applied up to 3-4 times per day.

How long can I use Allegra Anti-Itch Cream?
